Great leadership is the driving force behind successful organizations. To support your advancement as a leader, ASA has created this program to enhance your leadership competency and capacity.
The ASA Board of Directors invites you to enroll in the ASA Leadership Academy inaugural class, and take the next step forward in your evolving career. The cornerstone of the program is the five days the class is together in Washington, DC during the Aging in America Conference. The three-month leadership development program experience is complemented with additional online tools, web seminars, a self-assessment, an individualized development plan, lectures by recognized leaders in the field of aging, facilitated dialogues, extensive networking opportunities, and selected leadership literature. The program components are carefully designed to prepare participants to be among the next generation of leaders in the field of aging. The program begins in February and continues through May with most activities happening at the Aging in America Conference.
ASA’s expertise in leadership development spans nearly 20 years. Since 1993, ASA has been offering the New Ventures in Leadership program for professionals from communities of color, and more than 350 professionals in aging have graduated. A recent survey of graduates revealed that more than 90 percent have experienced career progression they attribute to enhanced leadership competencies gained from the program. ASA’s strategic plan called for the creation of an additional leadership development program designed for everyone who works along the continuum of care in serving older adults. The Board is pleased to launch this program in 2012.
The curriculum is inspired by the program’s philosophy that leaders influence the thinking of others and inspire colleagues to imagine a better future. Truly effective leaders start preparing early in their careers, choosing to study big-picture trends and critical issues instead of merely focusing on their current roles. Leaders in aging move on to link big-picture thinking to the future, appreciating how demographics, improvements in chronic care management, declining financial resources, a growing and increasingly multicultural aging population, and social and family support systems are game-changers in how aging services will be structured.
Expert leadership development coaches will take each participant through a methodical process of self-assessment and design of a personalized development plan. Graduates will leave this threemonth
leadership development program with broad exposure to key influencers, multiple opportunities to stay connected with other bright professionals who are also inspired to be the best, and a customized development plan that can be used immediately to begin evolving into an exceptional future leader.
