At its spring 2006 meeting, Robyn Golden stepped up as the new chair of the national board of directors of the American Society on Aging. Golden has worked in the field of aging for more than 20 years and has been active in ASA for more than a decade, including leadership positions as board treasurer, program committee cochair for the 2003 ASA-NCOA Joint Conference, chair of ASA's Mental Health and Aging Network, and ASA represenative on the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations.
"I am excited about the challenge of working with ASA's wonderful board, constituent groups, membership and staff at a time of great change for professionals who support older adults and their caregivers," Golden told ASA Connection. "I look forward to providing updates in our monthly e-mail newsletter on ASA's strategic plan and other initiatives. I welcome your thoughts, ideas and suggestions about ASA's programs and services."
Golden serves as director of older adult programs at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She also is an adjunct faculty member at the Institute for Clinical Social Work and at the School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago. She worked for 18 years at the Council for Jewish Elderly in Chicago, serving for much of that time as director of clinical services.
In 2005, Golden served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. In 2003-2004, she was a John Heinz Senate Fellow in the office of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). Golden is active in several professional organizations; is a frequent speaker for both professional and consumer audiences; and has published extensively. Golden holds a master's degree from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
