Recognizing Excellence in the Field of Aging
Undergraduate Student Award
This award was presented annually to an undergraduate student for exemplary original work related to the ASA-NCOA Conference theme.
PURPOSE
The award was given for exemplary original work related to the theme of the annual Conference of the American Society on Aging and the National Council on Aging.
The award was designed to:
- Reward exemplary work by an undergraduate student;
- Encourage undergraduates to pursue work in gerontology;
- Create visibility for ASA and the field of aging.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants need not be ASA members.
- Only undergraduate work will be considered.
- Applicants either must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program or must have completed their studies no more than one year before the time of submission.
- Applicants must have a faculty sponsor. The sponsor need not be an ASA member. The sponsor may advise but should not author the submission.
- The student must be the sole author.
- The work submitted must pertain to the theme of the annual Conference of the American Society on Aging and the National Council on Aging. Students are encouraged to draw upon a completed practicum, internship or community-based work experience, and, using the conference theme, explain how this experience applies to or exemplifies the theme.
- The relevance to the Conference theme, the field of aging and program policy planning must be clearly stated.
- The winner is expected to attend the ASA-NCOA Conference.
REVIEW CRITERIA
Submissions relevant to the Annual Meeting theme will be judged on the following criteria (100 points total):
- Relevance to the field of aging (50 pts.)
- Program, policy and planning implications (50 pts.)
MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED
- Application form, including faculty sponsor contact information.
- Original paper, no more than 15 pages, including references, covering all the review criteria. Paper must be typed in 12-point type, double-spaced, with 1" margins.
A review panel will judge the paper on its relevance to the field of aging and program, policy and planning implications. The winning student is expected to attend the annual Conference of The American Society on Aging and the National Council on Aging to receive the award.

- $500 cash award
- Award plaque
- Presentation of award at the ASA-NCOA Conference
- Complimentary registration for the Joint Conference
- One-year membership in ASA
