DriveWell: Promoting Older Driver Safety and Mobility in Your Community

Communities nationwide are confronting an increasingly complex challenge of ensuring the safety of older adult drivers and of promoting the continued mobility of individuals as they restrict or stop driving. Various Federal, state and local approaches to meet that challenge are underway - efforts that are changing the face of mobility nationally.

DriveWell is a comprehensive information program designed to:

  • Promote community conversations that can lead to increased driver safety and more transportation choices for adults ages 65 and older;
  • Encourage older drivers to change when and how they drive;
  • Prompt older adults to use alternative forms of transportation
  • Stimulate communities to assess the need for and, if needed, offer transportation choices more responsive to the needs of older adults.
