ASA UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT AWARD
Devon Fegen
Bloomington, IN
Devon Fegen is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She is currently a senior at
Indiana University, Bloomington, majoring in social work with a minor in
psychology. In the upcoming year, Devon plans to attend graduate school for
a Master's degree in social work.
In her paper, Fegen reports on an investigation of the Residential State
Supplement (RSS) program and its use in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The program
enables low-income older persons to live in supportive housing. The research
highlighted the need to revise the supportive housing licensing criteria.
The research described in Fegen's paper was conducted while interning at
Benjamin Rose as a part of the Margaret Blenker Research Institute. Funding
for the internship was made possible through a grant made by the Cleveland
Foundation. Although this was Fegen's first experience in the field of
gerontology, she found it very rewarding.
Fegen is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national freshman academic honor
society. She also participates in Tau Beta Sigma national honorary band
service sorority. Tau Beta Sigma coordinates service projects for the bands
on campus as well as for the general community. She has held several
leadership roles in the sorority, including ritual and regalia chair,
banquet chair, convention coordinator, and president. Fegen also
participates in the Social Work Student's Association on campus, and is
currently serving as one of several student representatives to the faculty.
She also is a student member of the National Association of Social Workers.
