The Gloria Cavanaugh
Award is presented annually by ASA to a member who has demonstrated
continued excellence in training and education in the field of aging.

Before you apply:
Purpose
The award is designed
to:
- Recognize an
individual who has made a significant and long-term contribution to
training and education in the field of aging.
- Create visibility
for exemplary training and educational efforts in the field of aging.
Eligibility
Any ASA member may
be nominated. Nominations may be made by ASA members, members of the
ASA Board of Directors, ASA staff or others in the field.

Criteria
Nominees will be
judged on the basis of:
- Training, education
or staff development that is accurate, current, culturally appropriate
and comprehensive.
- Reputation as
a spokesperson on an aging issue.
- Creativity and
innovation in training and education methods and effective use of
technology.
- Integration
of evaluation methodologies to ensure impact on knowledge and performance.
- Outreach to
audiences that are underserved.
- Responsiveness
to continuing education needs of providers.

Materials
to Be Submitted
- Completed nomination
form.
- Brief statement
(500 words), attached to online form, on how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.
- Two letters of
support focused on excellence in training and education.

Recognition
The Gloria Cavanaugh
Award will be presented at the 2006 Joint Conference of The National Council on the Aging and the American Society on Aging, to be held in Anaheim, California from March 16-19, 2006.
A conference session will highlight the work of the winning nominee.
Winners receive
the following:
- $500 cash prize
- Complimentary
registration and one night's lodging at the Joint Conference.
- Recognition at
a special session at the Joint Conference that highlights the award
winners.
- A program profile
included in the Joint Conference program, which will be distributed
to 3,500 attendees and posted on the ASA website.
- Recognition by
peers at an awards presentation.
