Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people represent a diverse group dealing with a range of sexual orientation and gender identity issues. This diversity encompasses race, ethnicity, age, education, political affiliation, income, and the degree to which individuals identify with other LGBT people.

Past and current experience have given LGBT people a relationship to the healthcare system that differs significantly from other ethnic and cultural groups.
