Celebrating a Career of Distinction

Join the Katz Policy Institute of Benjamin Rose, and the American Society on Aging, as we celebrate Sidney Katz’s 20th Anniversary as Distinguished Scholar. This is a special annual event at Benjamin Rose Institute who has graciously invited ASA members to participate.

Honoree
Sidney Katz, MD, joined the Benjamin  Rose Institute as Distinguished Scholar in 1989. Earlier in his career, Dr. Katz led a team at the Benjamin Rose Hospital in the development of the Index of Activities of Daily Living. The Katz ADL Index remains the benchmark for measuring function in older adults.

Special Guest
Sherrod Brown was elected to the U.S. Senate on November 7, 2006. He sits on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, the Banking Committee, the Agriculture and Nutrition Committee and the Veterans Committee. Prior to his election to the Senate, he served as a Congressman from the 13th District from 1993 to 2006, during which time he earned the National Public Health Legislator of the Year Award from the American Public Health Association (2003).

Katz Policy Institute
Named in honor of Dr. Katz, the Katz Policy Institute (KPI) was established in 2007 to expand the Benjamin Rose Institute’s involvement in educational outreach and public policy development. Ultimately, the KPI will promote collaborative work among BRI’s programs and with partner organizations; inform the development of BRI’s public policy positions; and contribute to public discourse and education on policy issues related to quality of life for older adults.
