ASA Chicago Roundtable – The Entitlement Concern:  Social Insurance as a Societal Compact

This session is a discussion of national and local concerns about the costs of providing benefits to older persons.  The United States has several major Social Insurance Programs.  Current discussion has not represented Social Security and Medicare in the context of how individuals pay and receive promised benefits.   Two Chicago-based members of the National Academy for Social Insurance will lead a discussion with the audience on the Programs, Goals, Status, Public Support and Threats to remarkably successful and accessible programs that older persons rely upon.
