Interprofessional Education in Geriatrics and Gerontology for Healthcare Professionals
The course learning objectives are: 1. Identify 2 complementary and alternative interventions for reducing pain and distress in elders. 2. Identify 2 complementary and alternative interventions for reducing stress in caregivers of frail elders. 3. Gain a better understanding of the uses of herbal remedies. 4. Learn how to assess information about herbal medicine, including safety and toxicity information, effective uses of herbal medicines, and reliable sources for information. 5. Describe 2 applications of music to enhance attention and recognition memory in persons with dementia. 6. Describe 2 ways rhythm can be used to improve physical function. 7. Gain an understanding of the narrative/life story approach as a research method that can be used to understand the human experiences. 8. Gain an understanding of how the narrative/life story approach can be used to describe human development in the context of social changes. 9. Describe the emotional/psychological benefits of narrative self-disclosure in helping older adults make meaning of, and integrate their life experiences.
