Baylor School of Social Work will host a colloquium on congregational social work with persons 55+ in May 2015 in Dallas, Texas. You are invited to propose a research paper on congregational social work practice with this population. The papers should address innovative concepts, applied research, and/or evidence-informed ministry models. The colloquium will focus on responses of religious congregations to psychological, relational, and/or spiritual strengths and vulnerabilities within the 55+ population and the role of social work in the design, delivery, and/or evaluation of congregational ministries with/by/for this age group.

All authors are strongly encouraged to contact the colloquium conveners by email or phone (see contact information below) by July 28, 2014 to discuss ideas for paper proposals. The deadline for all proposal submissions is September 30, 2014. We will notify applicants of proposal acceptance by October 15, 2014. Completed drafts of papers are due April 15, 2015. It is expected that papers will be approximately 15-20 double-spaced pages in length. Papers will be shared with other participants in advance of the colloquium, and authors with accepted papers are expected to read the papers of other participants and provide critically helpful commentary and edits. Preparation for the colloquium will also include reading selected articles provided by the colloquium organizers. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants will be expected to revise their work for submission to the Journal of Family and Community Ministries. A stipend of $300 will be provided to the first author of each manuscript accepted for publication.

Proposal submissions must include the following items:

  1. Title page with author’s name(s) and credentials, title(s) and affiliation(s), address(es), phone number(s), and email address(es)
  2. 500 word summary addressing the purpose of the paper, relevance to the colloquium topic, method(s) used to inform the paper (in the case of research, include research question[s], sample, data collection, and analysis procedures), impact of research and/or practice on congregational social work with the 55+ population, and a reference list using the American Psychological Association Style Manual format (6th edition)
  3. Current curriculum vitae or resume (maximum three pages)

Submit paper proposals electronically to the colloquium conveners (see contact information below) as e-mail attachments in Microsoft Word format.
