Follow these steps to make the most of
your time in Washington, DC.
-
Find your members of Congress.
Use this online look-up service to get contact information for their DC offices.
-
Call or email their offices today to schedule a visit by Friday, March 16.
Ask to speak with the scheduler. Explain that you'll be in town for the Aging in America Conference and would like to meet with the Representative/Senator or a staff person to discuss issues concerning older people. Each office has its own procedure—some may ask you to fax a request, others will have you speak directly with the staff person, and others will make the appointment for you.
-
Allow time between appointments.
You will likely be scheduled for a 30-minute appointment. Make sure you leave enough time in between to walk from one appointment to another. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from the Senate to the House side of Capitol Hill and about 5-10 minutes to walk in between Senate buildings and House buildings.
-
Tell us your plans.
Once your appointments are confirmed, please enter them in NCOA's online database. This will allow us to track appointments, consolidate appointments (if made by March 16) when possible, and provide you with a detailed schedule on the day of the event.
