Joint Conference Mentor/Shadower Program

The 2002 ASA-NCOA Joint Conference is the premier event in the field of aging. ASA student members are invited to take advantage of our new mentoring program designed to provide networking opportunities, field exposure, cross-generational learning and fun. This is an excellent way for you to make the most of your time at the Joint Conference--and advance your professional development.

Because the Joint Conference Mentor/Shadower Program is formally launching in 2002, we cannot guarantee that each student will be paired with a mentor who meets his or her exact requirements. In addition, since registration for the conference takes place through March 25, 2002, the list of available mentors and shadowers will change over time.

ASA members Fernando Torres-Gil and Kaja Snell discuss their mentor-shadower experience at the 2001 Joint Conference and offer tips for potential mentors and shadowers.

There are no hard and fast rules for a mentoring relationship -- flexibility and commitment are the key. However, we've created a few suggestions to help ensure a successful mentoring experience.

If you wish to become an e-mentor, use the e-mentor profile form.

If you wish to become an e-learning partner, first view a list of prospective mentors, then contact the member that mostly closely matches your interests by using the web form provided.
