What is the value and meaning of living to be 70, 80 or 100? What will be the quality of our later years? If these spiritual, religious or philosophical questions are your questions, then the Forum on Religion, Spirituality and Aging (FoRSA) is the place for you.
Today's world is marked by two related trends. One is that more people are living longer into old age. The other is increasing concern about the quality of extended life, ethics and aging. Together, these trends generate professional and personal interests in the meaning of long lives and the aging process.
These interests are engaged by some as "mindful" or "conscious" aging; for others, the experience of religious faith in later life; and for others still, a consideration of the importance of the spiritual dimension in how we age. FoRSA brings these interests together and promotes dialogue. It's the best choice.
FoRSA was founded almost a decade ago. Today, the Forum constitutes a large national, multidisciplinary and nondenominational community of professionals committed to examining and fostering the expression of the spiritual dimension of human existence and its role in the aging process.
The Forum works closely with its parent organization, ASA, in exploring the role of religion and spirituality in the lives of older adults. With 8,500 members, ASA is the country's largest professional membership association in the field of aging.
Professional Growth
Sharing information on recent research, new writings, innovative program models and emerging trends and issues is one of the greatest benefits of membership in this national community.
Opportunities include:
- A yearly conference in conjunction with ASA's Annual Meeting which allows FoRSA members from all parts of the country to gather and exchange ideas and information.
- Special sessions and social events during the Annual Meeting which create dynamic opportunities for national networking and enable FoRSA's members to establish themselves as a community of shared concern. Forum members receive special discounts for these programs.
- Electronic communications through the FoRSA issues area on ASA's Web site.
- A Membership Directory that makes it easy to develop and sustain contacts with others across the country engaged in similar activities or sharing similar concerns.
The Forum's quarterly newsletter, Aging & Spirituality, brings the latest and the best information, opinion and analysis, with a strong emphasis on the practical--what you can do in your community, agency or congregation to foster spiritual expression and development for older adults. This resource is available only to Forum members.
In addition to Aging & Spirituality, FoRSA members receive these outstanding publications:
Generations, ASA's quarterly journal, is one of the most highly respected journals in the field of aging. Each issue provides a diversity of perspectives on a single topical area in aging, written by leading researchers, policymakers, clinicians and practitioners.
Aging Today, ASA's bimonthly newspaper, covers the latest trends and developments in aging, including updates on new products and services, innovative programs and the latest research.
Anyone interested in the important role religion and spirituality play in aging is a welcome member of the Forum on Religion, Spirituality and Aging. The Forum is multidisciplinary, interfaith and non-denominational.
Membership benefits include the following:
- Reduced fees for all Forum on Religion, Spirituality and Aging conferences as well as all ASA conferences and events
- Subscriptions to three outstanding publications
- Educational programs specifically designed to meet member needs
