There are three ways for organizations to have a staff member, researcher or student participate in the New Ventures in Leadership program:
Organizational Sponsorship
An organization can sponsor a practitioner, administrator, researcher or student of color to participate in the program. The organization provides ASA with funds to cover administrative and personnel costs of the program and covers the cost of the partner's participation in attending the training events and Board of Directors Meeting, as well as providing the partner time to develop and implement his or her special project.
Local Funding
An organization can identify and secure funding from a local community corporation or foundation to cover costs of the partner's participation in the program.
Scholarships
Any person wishing to apply to the program, whose organization cannot sponsor or find local funding for their participation, may apply for a scholarship to attend the program. However, scholarships are limited by the availability of funding and are frequently limited to specific cities or regions as well.
Applicants must be committed to serving older adults of color and have their organization's full support. Interested applicants must submit a completed application by the due date.
NVL Cancellation and Refund Policy
The New Ventures in Leadership (NVL) program has a no refund policy for program tuition. The program development, recruitment and related investments required to implement NVL each year necessitate a “no refund” policy for program tuition. If, however, a cancellation is necessary due to medical disability of the NVL partner (program participant), the NVL program will retain a nontransferable program credit for that specific NVL partner, which is calculated as a percentage of the paid tuition, less program administration costs to date. The program credit for the NVL partner can be rolled over for participation in the subsequent program year, but will not be retained beyond one additional program year. Additionally, there may be additional fees for continuation in the following program year due to changes in programming from one year to the next.
All requests for cancellations must be submitted in writing and with documentation of medical disability. Cancellation requests received by February 1st, prior to the first ASA Aging in America conference of the NVL program year, are credited at 70% of the tuition fee. Cancellations received by May 1st, following the first ASA Aging in American conference of the NVL program year, are credited at 50% of the tuition fee. After May 1st, we regret that no refunds are possible. Please submit all cancellation requests in writing to Attn: Christabel Cheung, Director of Diversity, American Society on Aging, 71 Stevenson Street, Suite 1450, San Francisco, CA 94105-2938.
For the costs associated for one partner please contact Christabel Cheung, Director of Diversity at ccheung@asaging.org.
