This webinar will discuss the emergence of the field of creative aging and the seminal work of Dr. Gene Cohen. Michael Patterson and Susan Perlstein will review research on the impact the arts have on the health and well-being of participants, reviewing and updating information first discussed in the Generations article called “The Creative Arts and Brain Health in Later Life.” 

Participants in this web seminar will:

  • Learn about the emerging field of professional artists and gerontologists who use creative arts to enrich the lives and improve the health of older adults.
  •  Hear about an emerging body of scientific research that demonstrates benefits associated with participation in creative arts.
  • Have an increased understanding about how human beings have evolved to be creative.
  • Earn one hour of  *free* continuing education credit by attending the event and completing a CEU survey

Presenters:

Michael C. Patterson is co-founder and principal of mindRAMP Consulting which specializes in the the arts, creativity and brain health education. Michael is on the Board of the National Center for Creative Aging and is researching and writing on the evolution of human creativity and on creative cognition – how the brain does creativity and how creativity impacts the brain.
Susan Perlstein is founder emeritus of the National Center for Creative Aging and Elders Share the Arts. She now serves as a consultant to the field of creativity and aging and specializes in program development for well, frail and intergenerational programs that addresses life-long learning through the arts, health and well-being.
