Older adults face many stressors that can contribute to mental health concerns, yet these conditions often go under-detected or undertreated because of ageism, the complex overlay of physical and mental health and a variety of other factors. Plus, there is a well-documented shortage of trained mental health professionals to meet the current and growing demand for serving older adults. Rush University Medical Center’s Director of Health and Aging Robyn Golden, and Coordinator, Mental Health Services of Health and Aging Kate Krajci will present common myths, select screening and treatment options and future trends for mental health in older adulthood. Mary O’Donnell, senior program officer at the Retirement Research Foundation, will offer a grantmaker’s perspective and examples of how funders can help their communities effectively address mental health and aging.

Presenters:

She develops and oversees health promotion and disease prevention, mental health, care coordination and transitional care services for older adults, family caregivers and people with chronic conditions.
Kate Krajci, MA, LCSW, is coordinator, Mental Health Services of Health and Aging at Rush University Medical Center.
