Over time, many people with Parkinson's Disease will experience side effects of medications used to treat the disease, particularly as new medications are added or doses of existing medications are increased. If you have clients with Parkinson’s Disease, this webinar will offer invaluable information on the common side effects of Parkinson's medications, such as dyskinesia, wearing-off, drowsiness, sleep attacks, hallucinations and impulse control disorders. Practical strategies for managing these side effects will also be discussed.
Participants in this web seminar will be able to:
- List the available medications for early, moderate and advanced Parkinson's disease.
- Understand what various medications can and cannot do for Parkinson's symptoms.
- Know the potential side effects of medications, and which ones require more vigilant monitoring.
- Identify strategies for coping with these side effects when they do occur.
Presenter:
Hubert H. Fernandez, M.D., is Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University and the Head of Movement Disorders under the Center for Neurological Restoration at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Fernandez is an internationally recognized expert in movement disorders. After completing his medical training, he joined the faculty of Brown University School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and served as Associate Director of the Movement Disorders Unit and Neurological Director of its Functional Neurosurgical Program. In 2003, Dr. Fernandez relocated to the University of Florida, where he eventually became Director of the Clinical Research Unit for Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, and Professor of Neurology prior to joining Cleveland Clinic.
