In recent days ASA has joined with hundreds of nonprofit service and advocacy organizations across the country to urge broad Federal support for the nonprofit community. U.S. nonprofits are not only providers of crucial services and support for vulnerable populations, but are also key employers around the country. The challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic are an unprecedented test of resilience and capacity for many nonprofits.
ASA joined more than 200 organizations in signing a letter organized by the National Council of Nonprofits to legislative leaders in the House and Senate calling on legislators to provide expanded access to credit exclusively for nonprofits, and broader access to the Paycheck Protection Program in particular, among other measures. This letter was transmitted to legislative offices on April 8.
ASA also supported a letter organized by Independent Sector to the American Banking Association and the Bank Policy Institute, urging them to ensure that banks do their utmost to support nonprofit access to federally funded loans and credit through the CARES Act and additional measures. Lending institutions are crucial points of access for nonprofits for this vitally needed support.
