ASA Joins LCAO Letter to Oppose SNAP Reductions

On Monday, September 23, ASA was included among 30 signatory organizations within the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations who submitted a comment letter to the Department of Agriculture opposing the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) proposed rule to revise eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through changes to broad-based categorical eligibility (BBCE). The letter points out the disproportionate impact of the proposed changes on older adults who currently receive SNAP benefits as a critical support for adequate nutrition. ASA’s Public Policy Committee also encourages members to advocate with their legislators to opposes these benefit reductions.
