Many older adults and individuals approaching retirement age do not understand Medicare, supplement insurance, prescription drug benefits and long-term-care insurance. Without adequate information pre-retirement, individuals are not prepared to make informed decisions that are tailored to meet their needs and desires. This will affect the type and amount of coverage and ultimately, an individual’s access to care. This web seminar’s presenter, the assistant vice president of an insurance brokerage and the CEO of a consulting firm, will explain healthcare benefits in a way that is understandable to average consumers. Participants will get an overview of the state of healthcare, an update on legislation relevant to the healthcare and long-term care of older adults, links to resources for patients and family caregivers and tips on navigating the complexities of Medicare, including original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans.

Participants in this web seminar will be able to:

  • Identify best sources for reliable consumer information;
  • Share tips on navigating the complexities of Medicare, including original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans;
  • Describe key legislation relevant to the healthcare and long-term care of older adults; and,
  • List resources and tools available for patient and family education and planning.
