The Future of Congregate Meal Programs in the Pandemic Era

The Future of Congregate Meal Programs in the Pandemic Era

We understand the social, mental and emotional importance of Congregate Meal Programs, but how do we balance that with social distancing requirements and guidelines introduced by a pandemic?

ASA and SAGE convened an expert roundtable sponsored by AARP Foundation to study this issue and to imagine possibilities for congregate meal programs beyond the pandemic era.

Our objectives include:

  • framing the complex problems introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • learning from the experiences of New York City’s Department for the Aging;
  • brainstorming solutions to preserve social connections, build capacity, and develop consistent messaging.

Our hope is that providers, funders, practitioners, and families alike will draw inspiration from the conversations we had together.
