There are an estimated 3 million LGBT Americans age 50 and older. They are more likely to experience poverty, suffer a range of health disparities, and be single and three to four times less likely to have children. In addition, they are more likely to experience housing and employment discrimination. A lack of social and familial support means that they are more likely to experience social isolation or struggle to find a caregiver, which can have profound consequences on physical and mental health.

The Roundtable Outcomes:

  • Learn about the needs and resources available to help LGBT older adults find LGBT-affirming services and more effectively and competently address their individual needs.
  • How are legal services programs meeting the unique legal needs of low-income LGBT older adults, such as spousal benefits, accessing health care, and public benefits.
  • Learn about targeting educational outreach efforts to ensure that LGBT older adults are aware of their rights and mechanisms for redress under current law and regulations.
  • How are community-based and national organizations fighting back with legislative action.
