Many people experience normal changes as they age. However, there are a significant number of aging adults that start to experience changes in their cognition that impact their daily life. This is a sign that they may be developing a brain aging disease. This disease can abnormally affect memory, cognition and functioning. People affected by brain aging diseases may start to exhibit symptoms that interfere with daily life. These symptoms can be scary and overwhelming to older adults and their families. Professionals are often consulted for information and support about aging brain issues. Register for this web seminar to learn how to communicate with families about normal and abnormal brain aging and learn about the resources that exist to help families navigate these brain changes.

Participants in this web seminar will be able to:

• Describe warning signs that abnormal brain aging may be occurring;

• Describe the importance of early detection and diagnosis;

• Identify differences between the various brain aging diseases; and,

• List resources to recommend to older adults and their families to support them.

Presenter:

Lakelyn Hogan is a gerontologist and caregiver advocate for Home Instead Senior Care and a doctoral candidate at the University of Nebraska Omaha, studying social gerontology. She has a master of arts in social gerontology and master’s in business administration from UNO. Lakelyn has professional experience in the private and public sectors of senior care services.
